Based on Lower Addiscombe Road, The Prawnbrokers have been selling fresh fish and shellfish – cooked, raw and live since 1998. Our discerning customers know what they want when it comes to quality and freshness, so our family run fishmongers endeavour to provide the best. Our clientele travel from far afield for our carefully selected fresh fish and shellfish.
Our fishmongers begin their day no later than 2:30 am – sourcing products from Billingsgate Market. During the day we could receive “ship to shore” calls from trawlers operating off the South Coast advising us of their catches. Lobsters and scallops from Rye, dover soles, mackerel and witches from Newhaven. Bass and lemon soles from Brixham in Devon. By the time it reaches The Prawnbrokers it has only been out of the sea for 24 hours – that’s what we call fresh!
Wherever possible, we purchase line-caught or drift netted catches. We transport the produce in temperature controlled vehicles to ensure the products reach our establishment in pristine condition.
A wide choice of fresh fish and shellfish is always available. Out of the ordinary requests can be sourced with 48 hours notice. We try our hardest to ensure all of our products are ethically caught – hook and line, netted and in season.
The Prawnbrokers provide catering for any occasion. Shellfish platters can be made to order to suit all budgets. Whole dressed salmon is a favourite. Seven days notice is a must, please. All catering is done to suit individual requirements.
The range of seafood products at The Prawnbrokers is second-to-none in our opinion. We also stock fresh smoked products haddock, salmon, mackerel, kippers and roe.
A wide range of frozen products are also available, from whole prawns and lobster tails to whitebait and much much more. The ‘Best of the East End’ can also be found here – jellied eels, cockles, whelks and winkles.
